A few days ago, I tweeted out, “The first person to email me wins this original drawing” etc, Beth was the first one to reply. [NB- the tweet has since been deleted].
About the drawing: This time, back in New York City’s West Village in December, 1998, I was shopping for Christmas presents in the snow. It was was one of those moments when life seemed absolutely perfect. Everything was alright in the universe. Those moments had become increasingly non-existent ever since leaving college, it was nice to be back in the flow again.
THE JERUSALEM SERIES
Over the years, I’ve gotten increasingly interested in religion, faith, God etc. These wee drawings are the result.
THE SCOTTISH PROJECT is where I hand-draw postcards (mosly pen & ink and pencil), document them here online, and then mail them from here in North Carolina to (mostly) my friends in Scotland, where I grew up. It's my way of staying in touch with my roots.
Between 1997 and 2020 I drew thousands of little cartoons on the back of business cards, which I refer to as The Manhattan Series. That project is done for now.
Looking back, for all the countless hours spent drawing , it seems to me that the best thing to come out of it was the fact that a good many of those hours were spent bringing my mind to a meditative state, a Zen state, in the zone, a mindful state, closer to the Lord, call it what you will. For that, I am truly grateful.
